Umbria

Umbria is the green heartland of Italy. Most often tourists hurry through this region on their way to Rome or towards the coast line, taking very little time to visit charming towns, typical medieval villages and missing out on the beautiful countryside.
The best known town Perugia which is also the provincial capital and Assisi, known all over the world for its importance in the life of St. Frances.
Lake Trasimeno, is the largest lake in central Italy. Eight different kinds of black and white truffles can be found nearby.

Among other things, Perugia boasts the Piazza IV Novembre, one of the most beautiful squares in Italy with a splendid medieval fountain, la Fontana Maggiore. Perugia has a considerable cultural heritage and the green of the Umbrian countryside. It also has such gastronomic treasures as the “Baci” the original chocolate praline which make it worth a visit during your stay in Umbria.

Assisi is the largest religious centre in Italy after the Vatican. The terrible earthquake some years ago did not manage to destroy all the art treasures of this town. Some of its architecture has been declared a world cultural heritage site.
Not only will visitors be enchanted by the solemn religious sites dedicated to Saint Frances and Saint Chiara and the magnificent cathedral, but also the narrow alleys where artists exhibit their work and the beautiful scenery.

Gubbio also known as the “city of silence”, retains its medieval features intact. Starting from Piazza del Teatro Romano, right in the heart of this town, you can explore on foot its cultural treasures and see the workshops of the master carpenters and musical instrument makers.
